Katira Restaurant

The name of our restaurant comes from the Maleku indigenous language. Katira means “beautiful woman” in the Maleku tongue, and since 1989 it has been the name of our restaurant. Although the Maleku population has decreased over the centuries, today there are still three main groups remaining: Tonjibe, El Sol and Margarita. These groups currently live on reserves in the Los Guatuzos lowlands area, about one hour from our hotel.

Katira, our exceptional restaurant and snack bar, is framed by rich gardens that thrive along the edge of the San Carlos River. Our restaurant specializes in groups, but we still make sure to offer each customer personalized service. Manuel Tuz, our expert chef, has designed an exclusive menu that highlights Costa Rica’s traditional cuisine as well as international and gourmet dishes. Our staff will gladly prepare your favorite dish while you enjoy a tropical drink and take a look to the wide variety of birds and flowers that surround our open-air restaurant.

Our beef is famous. We raise it on our own cattle farm, which is one of the San Carlos area’s main ranches. Some vegetables, palms, fruits and spices are harvested in our gardens, and they make up the key ingredients in our chef’s many magical dishes. You’ll find great, fresh local ingredients in a spectacular array of dishes in our menu.
